Midway through the volleyball season, all three (3) of Gladeview Christian School’s volleyball teams are excelling and striving to qualify for the Post season championships to be held at the Miami Springs Recreation Center on Thursday, October 30, 2014. All three (3) teams are coached by Panther Sports Academy Director, David Cuervo.
Gladeview’s JV team is off to a 4-0 start. This year, the JV team returns seven (7) players from last year’s JV Championship team. A year ago, the JV team started the season losing its first match of the season to First United Methodist in straight sets, and were 3-3 midway through the season before winning its last 3 matches to qualify for the post season. Gladeview entered the post season tournament with a record of 6 wins and 3 losses before shining at the JV Championships and beating First United Methodist in the Championship finals; it was the school’s first Championship ever in the JV volleyball division. So far this season, Gladeview’s JV team has won all their matches in straight sets.
After losing four (4) starting 8th graders a year ago that led Gladeview’s Girls varsity team to back to back undefeated championship seasons in 2012 and 2013, this year’s girls team has four (4) returning players from last year, and several younger players playing on the varsity team for the 1st time. So far Gladeview’s Girls varsity team is off to a 3-2 start. Both of their losses have gone to the 3rd set. With three (3) matches left in the season, Gladeview’s girls varsity team is striving to qualify for the post season for the 4th year in a row.
Gladeview’s Boys varsity volleyball team is 5-0 and playing real well as they have won their last four (4) matches in straight sets. With only two (2) 8th graders, and half the team in 7th grade, this team looks to not only finish strong this year and attempt to make the finals for the 4th year in a row, but has a promising future next year. Gladeview’s boys varsity team have 3 matches left against First United Methodist School, All Angels Academy, and Cutler Ridge Christian Academy, before preparing for the post season tournament on October 30th. Gladeview Christian School’s boys varsity team have won the championship the last three (3) years in a row, and currently have won 31 straight matches going back to September of 2011 when the streak began. None of Gladeview’s current players on the varsity roster were on the roster when the streak began three (3) years ago.
The top four (4) teams in the league in each division (JV, MS Girls varsity, and MS Boys varsity) will qualify for the Independent Private School League Championships at the Miami Springs Recreation Center on Thursday, October 30, 2014.
