About the Founder

Panther Sports Academy was founded in 2014 by David Cuervo.  David brings years of experience coaching and managing a variety of sports and events in various ages and grade levels ranging from preschool-High School. David has also hosted many special events and league championships. David has extensive experience in managing recreation centers, as well as overseeing summer camps, sports camps, and serving as Athletic Director.

 

COACHING AND OTHER RELATED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

1993- As the head high school wrestling coach at Ransom Everglades, David coached the school’s first ever place winner in wrestling when Sean Miot placed 3rd in the FHSAA Wrestling tournament.

1994- Coached  Ransom Everglades wrestling team to its first and only District Championship in school’s history.

1997-  As the Head Assistant Coach at Belen Jesuit School, David co-coached the school’s first ever State wrestling champion in Jorge Vigo, and the school’s first ever State runner up in Michael LLorente. Belen won the District Championship in four (4) out of the (6) years that David was involved in the program. During his tenure at Belen Jesuit, David coached four (4) individual State Champions, and over ten (10) State place winners.

2001- As head coach of the Wolverine Wrestling Club, David coached his son Eric to a 5th place finish in the USA Wrestling Freestyle Nationals in his age group.  David would also coach his Son Eric to a total of 12 All American finishes in three styles of wrestling (Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco), including finishing 2nd place at the FILA Cadet Nationals in 2006 in both Freestyle and Greco Roman. He also coached his twin son Gabriel to a 4th place finish at the Greco Roman Nationals in 2003 in his age group.

Note: Eric would go on to become a 3x Florida High School State Wrestling Champion and 4x finalist at Braddock Sr. High, as well as becoming the 1st freshman (9th grader) in Miami Dade County history to win an individual State wrestling title in 2006. His twin brother Gabriel would become a 2x high school State wrestling Champion and 3x time State place winner also at Braddock Sr. High.

2003- David Cuervo was named Middle School teacher of the year when he served as a Physical Education teacher at Highpoint Academy.

2003- As a volunteer assistant coach at Howard Doolin Middle School, David helped the school win the Central District wrestling title in the Miami Dade Public School wrestling league.

2010- While serving as Athletic Director at Gladeview Christian School, the school’s Middle School basketball team advanced to the Championship finals for the first time in school history where they finished in 2nd place in the league.

2011- Gladeview Christian’s Lower Elementary basketball team finished in 2nd placed in the league tournament; first time an elementary team advanced to the league finals.

2011- While serving as Athletic Director and Head coach for the school’s volleyball team, Gladeview Christian won its first ever Championship in any sport when the Middle School Boys/Co-ed team went undefeated and won the league title.

2012- David coached two (2) of Gladeview Christian School’s varsity volleyball teams to Championships when both the Middle School Boys/Co-ed Varsity Volleyball team, and the Middle School Girls Varsity Volleyball team won titles.

2012-  While serving as Athletic Director at Gladeview Christian School, David had the opportunity to oversee the school’s Middle School Boys Basketball team win its first ever league Championship.

2013-  Gladeview Christian School’s JV Basketball team win its first ever league Championship.

2013-  David coached Gladeview Christian School’s Lower Elementary Basketball team (2nd – 3rd grade) and the School’s Upper Elementary Basketball team (4th – 5th grade) to the school’s first ever Championship in Elementary basketball.

2013- David coached all three (3) of Gladeview Christian School’s volleyball teams to Championships as the Middle School Boys Varsity team, Middle School Girls Varsity team, and the JV team all won the league championship.

2014- David coached the Upper Elementary Basketball team to the league Championship.

2014- David coached all three (3) of Gladeview Christian School’s volleyball teams to league championships for the 2nd year in a row.

2014 & 2015- As Athletic Director, David had the opportunity to oversee Gladeview Christian School’s Middle School Boys varsity basketball team advance to the league finals two (2) years in a row and finish in 2nd place in the league.

2015- As Athletic Director, David had the opportunity to oversee the JV basketball team go undefeated and win the league championship.

2015- David helped coach Kendall Christian School’s elementary soccer team to a  2nd place finish in the league in its 1st year of competition. Kendall Christian School’s soccer program is coached by Panther Sports Academy coaches.

2015- While serving as Athletic Director, David had the opportunity to oversee both of Gladeview Christian School’s  elementary basketball teams finish in 2nd place at the League Championships.

2015- Panther Sports Academy adds wrestling in Miami, FL

2015- Panther Sports Academy expands to Wake Forest Charter Academy in Wake Forest, NC to offer after school athletic programs.

2016- Coral Park Christian Academy’s JV volleyball team (4th-6th grade) qualifies for the “Independent Private School League” post season tournament in the school’s 1st year in competition, and finishes in 3rd place at the tournament.

2016- Wake Forest Charter Academy’s Middle School girls volleyball team finishes in 2nd place in the “Triangle Area Athletic Conference” in the school’s 1st year in competition.

2017- Wake Forest Charter Academy’s Middle School Boys Basketball team wins the Conference Championship (Triangle Area Athletic Conference) in the school’s 1st year in competition.

 

Other duties and responsibilities

David Cuervo also organizes and coordinates league meetings for the schools in the Independent Private School League  consisting of mostly private schools not affiliated with the FHSAA.

Event management experience

* In 1995 David served as tournament Director for the High School District wrestling tournament held at Ransom Everglades High School

* In 2000 David helped organize and run the High School District wrestling tournament at Belen Jesuit School

*In October of 2011 and 2012, David hosted and was the tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” Middle School Boys Volleyball Championships  held at Gladeview Christian School.

*In October of 2011 and 2012, David hosted and was the  tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” Middle School Girls Volleyball Championships  held at Gladeview Christian School.

*In February of 2012 and 2013, David hosted and was the tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” Middle School Boys Basketball and JV Basketball Championships held at Gladeview Christian School.

*In February of 2014, David was the tournament Director for the Independent Private School League” Middle School Boys and JV Basketball Championships held at Horeb Christian School.

*In October of 2012, David hosted and was the tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” JV volleyball tournament held at Gladeview Christian School.

*In 2013 and 2014, David hosted and was the tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” Elementary basketball Championships in both the lower elementary division (2nd-3rd) and Upper elementary division (4th-5th) held at Gladeview Christian School.

*In October of 2014, David served as the tournament Director for all three (3) divisions (JV, Middle School girls, Middle School Boys) in the “Independent Private School League” Volleyball Championships held at the Miami Springs Recreation Center.

*In February of 2015, David Served as the tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” Basketball Championships in the JV, Middle School Girls and Middle School Boys divisions held at the Miami Springs Recreation Center.

*In May of 2015, David served as the tournament Director for the “Independent Private School League” Elementary Basketball Championships in both the Lower elementary (2nd-3rd) and Upper Elementary (4th-5th) divisions held at the Miami Springs Recreation Center.
